Roger Greenbaum has assisted individuals and companies in solving dispute-related and transactional issues for more than 35 years. Using rigorous analysis of all factors bearing on the situation, Roger promotes solutions which are forward-looking, people-oriented, practical and economical.
Roger’s effectiveness as an advocate is rooted in a law practice which has been diverse. He has perspective gained from representation and research in traditional business-oriented disciplines such as contract law, partnership law, real estate, construction defect, corporate law, utility finance law and business torts, yet also extending to the law as it relates to special education, the environment, the standards governing conduct of fiduciaries (directors, executors, trustees, conservators, guardians), and tort law relating to injury from products and hazardous materials.
His professional practice in California dates from 1992. Roger has served as a member of the Panel of Mediators of the Sonoma County Superior Court. He has also served as a Judge Pro Tempore in the San Francisco Superior Court, and as an arbitrator under the auspices of the Bar Association of San Francisco. His training as a mediator includes, but is not limited to, intensive training with the Center for Mediation in Law, Mill Valley, California.
Roger has developed singular expertise in the federal law on special education. He is the author of a nationally-recognized practice guide for lawyers, published in 2019 by West Publishing Company, a division of Thomson Reuters, the leading publisher for the legal profession, on the chief federal statute on the education rights of students with disabilities – – the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (the “IDEA”). Before that, West Publishing Company in 2016 published Roger’s extensive study of the statute and regulations providing for Independent Educational Evaluations (“IEE’s”) under the IDEA.
Roger draws on experience in other fields, as well. Early in his career he served as a Congressional aide on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Prior to and during law school, Roger worked as a journalist, publishing articles in newspapers and magazines in Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Connecticut and New York, winning an honor for his feature-writing and analysis. He is also author of a three-character play, An Evening At Home: An Hour in Celebration of Robert Frost, which was staged in San Francisco.
Roger has gained added skill sets via studies in business administration in the executive MBA program at San Francisco State University. There, he earned election to the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society for academic excellence. In that program, he gained literacy not only in classic MBA subjects such as economics, management, finance, accounting and marketing, but also in newer fields of emphasis such as information technology, sustainability and ethics. Roger is a graduate of Harvard College. He received his law degree from Columbia University School of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
In his work as a lawyer and mediator, it is Roger’s aim to draw on the several disciplines in which he has training and experience in order to promote smart, practical solutions. He continues to welcome new clients across a diverse range of needs, whether in situations arising from business disputes, education law disputes, or other matters.
